Brief reflections on the Big(D)esign Conference

Brief reflections on the Big(D)esign Conference

An A-to-Z list of MadMacGirl’s observations on Day 2 of BigD10:

  • Adobe freebies! A red and black bag for my designers to fight over at work on Tuesday.
  • Business cards given away = 7.
  • Cupcake lady! Thanks for the sponsorship.
  • Dynamic prototyping and life according to Ferris Bueller and John Hughes. Thanks, Chris Bernard. I get it.
  • EMAC at UT-Dallas. Spotted WordPress RockStar/web developer Randy Hoyt and @amypickup out and about on Day 2. UT-Dallas represent!
  • Fast talking Jeremy Johnson. Understanding the Mobile Design Question? Yes, I do now.
  • Girls under trees and UT-Dallas. Guilty as charged!
  • Hughes Trigg Student Center was a nice venue. Thank you, SMU!
  • Iron Man vs. Bruce Lee
  • Jared Spool’s closing keynote. ’nuff said.
  • Know your audience!
  • Lessons. Lots of lessons…
  • Mental Notes. I can’t wait to purchase the 52-card set. Congrats, Stephen Anderson, on your Boagworld article feature last week.
  • Nifty gifty! Journal notebooks with the Big(D)esign Conference logo.
  • Office politics. Most of these types of questions were met with either a blank stare by the speaker or a “ …well, I’m lucky that I get along with everybody” response. You are professionals in your field. Real world examples next time, please.
  • Pass the Dunkin’ Donuts!
  • Quesadillas from Quesa-D-Ya’s at lunch. Yum!
  • Russ Unger wants you to stop hiding your work! Wise words.
  • Sketch! On anything! But SketchFlow looks interesting…
  • Travis Isaacs. He’s Kung-Fu Keynote fighting and it’s a little bit frightening.
  • UX people. That community is hard-core.
  • Video posted on Day 1’s Big Design Conference Live on U-Stream had me pumped for Day 2!
  • What needs to go mobile on your website? Not everything!
  • Xtra scary website. Yes, it’s real. http://lingscars.com/
  • Yes, I’ll certainly attend both days next time!
  • Zoo. Something that the Big(D)esign Conference was definitely not. Appreciate the hard work of the sponsors, volunteers and speakers. And a great group of attendees as well!
